Our Story
Welcome to our
town in the trees
Hello, people who love nature. And great coffee, schools, job opportunities and all those other handy urban perks you just don’t want to give up. Located in Richmond Hill, in Georgia’s lush coastal woodlands just 25 miles south of Savannah, Heartwood blends Lowcountry charm with innovation, creating a fresh new take on a classic way of life. Think Friday night football games with your neighbors. Walks to the town square for local ice cream. Plus easy access to workplaces, schools, shops and everyday services — all planned for right here in the community. (Here’s to you, busy families.)
Welcome to Heartwood, y’all. A new kind of town that’s slow and fast in all the right places.

The Heartwood Vision

Location
Richmond Hill’s special something
Some move here for the quiet, coastal beauty and outdoor pursuits of fishing, boating and hiking along the Ogeechee River. Others come for the exceptional schools, part of the A-rated Bryan County School District. Then there’s the feel of history all around you, from Indigenous and Colonial beginnings to a Civil War fort to the mansion of industrialist Henry Ford, who transformed the town in the 1920s. Living in Heartwood means you can also enjoy the best Richmond Hill traditions of today, like farmers markets and annual events like the Spring Fling, Fourth of July fireworks, holiday tree lighting and more.
Raydient Places + Properties
A forest connected
After Henry Ford’s death in 1947, much of his land was acquired and carefully managed for decades by timber company Rayonier. Heartwood lies on thousands of acres of this beautiful forest and now Rayonier’s subsidiary, Raydient Places + Properties, is developing Heartwood with equal care. Raydient’s thoughtful approach has proven again and again to create best-loved places, designed to uplift the lives of residents, strengthen the local economy, improve civic infrastructure and protect the natural environment. Raydient’s long-term vision will ensure that Heartwood fulfills its promise as an extraordinary place that shines brightly for generations.
